Can HRIG cause Prion Diseases ?

2025-07-13 20:53:40
I’ve completed the full Rabies Vaccination schedule, but I'm concerned HRIG (Human Rabies Immunoglobulin) might pose a risk of prion disease  transmission due to potential contamination with pathogenic prion proteins from infected plasma donors during manufacturing. Could you explain the current safety protocols to prevent this risk as prions resist standard sterilization, years to decade incubation and transmission period, as some prions like vCJD is proven to be transmitted from blood so I am worried. Please address my concerns That the HRIG didn't put me on any other future  medical problems or fatal issues can u assure me was it completely safe and Am I completely safe from HRIG that was administered to me?

Your concern about prion disease is understandable, but you can rest assured that HRIG (Human Rabies Immunoglobulin) is extremely safe. Modern manufacturing of HRIG follows stringent plasma screening, donor deferral protocols, and validated purification steps designed to eliminate all known pathogens, including prions. You are not at risk of prion disease from HRIG. It is a safe product, and you can feel confident that it has not put you at risk of any future fatal condition. No confirmed cases of prion disease have ever been linked to HRIG use.
