Pain in calf may be due to following reasons
1) muscle strain
2) electrolyte imbalance
3) arterial insufficiency
4) venous insufficiency
5) neurogenic claudication
6) Achilles tendinitis
The data you have provided seems to be insufficient to label the symptoms to any one of these pathologies
1) strain- frequent EXERCISE
2) electrolyte imbalance- due to imbalance of POTASSIUM,
CALCIUM,MAGNESIUM. Also seen due to use of DIURETICS
3) arterial insufficiency- calf pain seen after WALKING a particular distance or if severe even at REST WHILE SLEEPING
4) venous insufficiency- seen after PROLONGED standing
5) neurogenic claudication- SHARP pain immediately on standing
6) Achilles tendinitis- pain and swelling predominantly over the HEEL with it radiating to the calf
Hence we need to rule out the exact cause
Next Steps
To rule out the exact cause do the following.
1) take rest for a few days and then continue the routine.
2) get these tests done so that they can be corrected accordingly
3) might need arterial Doppler. also look for thinking of skin in the lower half of leg, loss of hair, thinning of nails,
4) get a venous Doppler done and consult a surgeon with reports
5) see if the pain decreases by bending forward.
6) press on the area just above the heel and see if it is painful and touch it to see if it is hotter than the rest of the body. also look for any swelling
Health Tips
1) add analgesics and hot fomentation
2) report to a physician if reports are abnormal
3) and 4 ) consult a surgeon with the reports
5) consult an orthopaedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon
6) consult an orthopaedic surgeon
