I have a brown vertical line in nail plate of my middle finger from last one years, but there is no any growth or pain in that structure. somewhere I read that this type of lines is sign of melanoma (skin cancer. i have no history of cancer in my family.

Greetings. Sometimes this line may just be a pigmentation due to accumulated pigment producing cells and this is common in indian and african skin type and is called - melanonychia. However, indeed, melanoma presents with dark line in the nail area - I would suggest you to see a qualified dermatologist near you - to further evaluate and decide whether u need any tests for melanoma or if it is - melanonychyia . warm regards
