Dear patient,
Your breathing problem is because of the deviated nasal septum which means the nasal bone instead of being straight is either curved like C - shaped or S - shaped which will be associated with turbine hypertrophy ( means swelling of the muscles within the nose) this prevents the air entry into the nose leading to alternative open mouth breathing and a feeling of nasal blockade and shortness of breath also with mild swelling of the lips. The severity of the problem depends on the degree of nasal bone deviation.
Next Steps
There are no tablets to correct the bony abnormality ( I. e the nasal septum ). Septoplasty is the permanent solution for the condition. So I think the doctor you have consulted has understood your condition and has advised you for Septoplasty.
Health Tips
Once all the investigations are done and fitness is provided for your surgery you can undergo Septoplasty.
