Seems to be case of non canalization of nasolacrimal duct, take appointment with experienced ophthmologist & take your baby along with your wife & train her how to do lacrimal sac massage while lactating the child otherwise it will result into chronic dacrocystitis, please don't make further delay till you can put some antibiotic eye drops 4-5 times a day (vigamox  eye drops).
