Hi - My wife 2nd trimester Ultrasound report shows some Anechoic Fluid collection in surface of the placenta. Here is findings from Report: " There is a single intrauterine pregnancy in a breech presentation. The placenta is posterior and is without evidence of previa. There is an anechoic fluid collection along the surface of the placenta that measures 2.4 x 1.7 x 2.0 cm, consistent with a small venous lake. " Can you please tell if it is normal or any treatment required for Anechoic fluid collection? Will there be any issues because of this fluid ?

It is not normal. But it is not something about which we should be unduly worried. It means that there is a small collection of fluid (it could be blood also) on the surface of the placenta. The volume is about 4 ml. It could be venous sinuses also. They will do nothing to the pregnancy. The only thing is that if these are venous sinuses they may bleed during delivery. In subsequent ultrasound scans it may disappear also.
