It is not normal. But it is not something about which we should be unduly worried. It means that there is a small collection of fluid (it could be blood also) on the surface of the placenta. The volume is about 4 ml. It could be venous sinuses also.
They will do nothing to the pregnancy. The only thing is that if these are venous sinuses they may bleed during delivery.
In subsequent ultrasound scans it may disappear also.
