Any external muscle stimulation will be quite severely limited trying to tone muscles. One thing to remember is, if these were so good and worked so well, we all would be walking around with 6 packs!
The way to tone and strengthen muscles is to make them work by stressing them. Regular exercise is the most appropriate but a hard way to improve muscle tone. Diet changes like avoiding junk food, sugary colas, processed foot and fried food will help. Weight loss is important to get definition to muscles. Working on the abdominal muscles with exercises like sit ups, crunches, yoga, core strengthening will all help.
Always remember if you put the effort in and work the muscles, you will see the benefits and it will be longer lasting.
Before starting any exercise regime make sure your heart, lungs and joints can take the stress. If necessary see a physician for medical clearance. Then start slow and gradually build it up.
