On a more general note, the effects of mitral valve regurgitation depends on its severity. Depending on the reason for the problem, it may progress. It has to be constantly monitored by regular Echocardiograms. Medicines help in the initial stages to control the symptoms. In some patients if the regurgitation becomes severe then they may need to under go surgery. Surgery if done on time gives very good result and one can lead a normal life.
