Hi, my 2 months daughter (preterm 35wk) has been diagnosed with 6mm VSD, 3mm ASD and moderate PDA all left to right shunt. Her current weight is 3.5kg. We have consulted 2-3 pediatric cardiologists and everyone is suggesting for surgical correction. But, we are not sure of when. Everyone has different opinion- immediate or before baby gets 6 months old or baby gets either 1 yr old/ weighs 10kg. Currently, there is no symptoms observed in her related to vsd and she is gaining weight, taking feed and passing urine/stool normally. So, please advise us what would be right time for surgery. Thanks

Need to b on close follow up since there are at least two problems which are significant in ur baby. Vsd and Pda. If baby is not gaining weight and develops symptoms such as repeated chest infections, then it needs to b taken care of earlier no matter what is the weight. But before that ur pediatric cardiologist will start on oral medications to control symptoms and look for response. Ideally 6 months - 1year is appropriate in ur case. But do keep a close follow up every month so that decision can be made about closing the defects.
