39 weeks pregnant, baby not engaged

Hi, my baby's head is not engaged yet. I have been walking, squatting and doing some exercises to get her/him engaged. But I don't feel any improvement, she hasn't dropped. My due date is on sep 22, is there any chance that I can feel contractions and get into labor without my baby's engagement before my due date? Or the contractions happen only if the baby has dropped?
