17 months old baby hasn't started talkin

Hi Doctor My daughter is 17 months old and hasn't started talking yet. She knows to say few words like mumma, papa, hi, bye, wow but uses them only occasionally. She is very vocal and does a lot of baby (talks) babbling but not proper talks as of now. I hope this (talking) stage is not getting delayed? What can I do to help her pick up soon? Hi sandhya, first tell me does she obeyed your order.?.. if she follows your order then her hearing is ok..if she doesnt follow or understand your order then there might be a hearing issues.. If she follow your order or command then no worries...sometimes child may take upto 3 years... Also inquire about family history of delayed speech..

check whether child hearing is good or not...what about other development milestones? hope birth history was normal..

Hi! You don't need to worry much as in this age a child usually speaks in an unintelligible manner. She will start joining 2-3 wards gradually after 20 months. This talking a lot is called jargon....so it's not delayed at all
