A Journey of 1000g with Dr Z
It’s the year 2020 and the world is on its knees, a year full of challenges, missed opportunities and relentless patience. It sets a perfect example as to how powerless mankind is, but the difference between impossible and possible lies in a man’s determination.
This is the story of a man, who gave up and believed that he deserved failure, this is my story.
In the month of June, I hit an all time low, I was going through a divorce, not just with another human, but also with my body. The past few months had been exhausting, be it the trauma of separation or the injury in my lower back, I just couldn’t cope up. I never anticipated my world to turn upside down, it all happened so abruptly, and before I could register, it had taken a toll on my mental and physical well-being. I started to binge eat, all day, every day, as if I were in a competition for “all you can eat”. It was not soon after that I began feeling like a sumo wrestler, I even walked like one, all the excess weight I had put on changed by breathing pace. I stepped on the weighing scale and it read “please weigh one at a time”, I hit 84Kgs, the heaviest I had ever been and for my body type and height that was sumo levels!
I couldn’t fit into my tees or jeans, I went from a size S to an L, but somehow the impact wasn’t strong enough to drive a change, I wanted to stay out of shape, almost like I was punishing myself by eating. At the time it felt like the only way to deal with my setbacks, but I was wrong! I specialized in the construction industry, where people with the hardest jobs, longest hours and the least pay had the biggest smiles. I noticed the world around me was more helpless than I was, and yet they were fighting with their all. I, on the other hand was blessed with much more than I possibly deserved, so how could I give up?
This was my turning point, I realized that my suffering was a drop in a river, I owed it to myself, my parents and the less fortunate to not give up. I was determined to be the best version of myself, physically, mentally and spiritually. But the secret to change is, we must accept the end of something in order to begin building something new. My journey began by making way for my inner self, understanding and processing what I had been through and where I stood. I knew I had to shed the sumo skin, but I just wasn’t sure if I could do it.
I am a millennial and just like the rest of us, I googled for answers to all my questions. Hey google, how do I lose weight?! Well, that’s easy just reduce your calorie intake, cut down on carbs and sugar. That’s exactly what I did, and it worked, for a month! I came down to 80kgs, and then came the setback. My metabolism had completely crashed, I was constantly feeling weak and my bowel movements were more irregular than ever.
Clearly, the google solution wasn’t working for me! I needed to educate myself on nutrition and achieve sustainable weight loss, so I began searching for nutritionists. I came across several great nutritionist in Mumbai, and lucky for me I stumbled upon Dr Zubeida Tumbi (aka Dr Z). I quickly learnt through the testimonials that she paid a great deal of attention on the well-being rather than “diet” of an individual and this got me interested.
I decided to give it a shot with Dr Z, and had my first online consultation with her on 24th July. We spoke for over an hour, it was a great first consultation, she made me feel extremely comfortable and above all she believed in me. Her approach to gather information about my eating habits and lifestyle was detailed and thorough and upon her initial assessment she recommended few tests, to determine my overall health.
Slowly and steadily she began transforming my eating habits, while building my knowledge on the benefits of various foods. Based on my likes and dislikes she formulated a bi-weekly plan and monitored my progress closely, and was always available if I hit a roadblock.
The results after the first two weeks were amazing, I dropped 2Kgs and was now weighing in at 77Kgs. Since then its been 3 months I have been consulting with Dr Z, and my results are nothing short of remarkable, not only have I lost “weight” but my body fat percentage has also dropped by a staggering 5%. But this is just scratching the surface of my progress, her plans have completely transformed by IBS and my gut health is better than ever before, as a result I feel more energetic and productive.
Dr Z has been a wise counsel, not only in nutritional aspects but also in life and I strongly vouch for her. I am closer to my goals than ever before and it wouldn’t have been possible without her guidance and support.
They say that a journey of thousand miles, well in my case 1000g begins with a single step, and she was there all the way. I am grateful to Dr Z and her wonderful team, for taking the time to care for me and inspiring me to achieve my goals.
To all of you reading, this isn’t a testimonial on Dr Z. Words can’t do justice to the commitment, passion and selfless dedication she has shown towards me and many alike. I am narrating this story to inspire you to take a leap, to believe in yourself and not give up, for what you seek lies within you.
Success is not a destination it’s a journey, and along your journey you can count on Dr Z.
