Weakening of muscles after abdominal sur

My father aged 49 gone through abdominal surgery bcoz of colon 15 months ago .But till date suffering from pain in incision part n muscles near incision And a ball  like  structure form when he coughs .On consultation with surgeon he concluded that the muscles are weak near that part n can heal with time passage or if their is severe discomfort we need to have one more minor surgery , I guess he pronounced ie :  patching Plz advice any measure to strengthen abdominal muscles without surgery or any diet n exercise N why the ball like structure form Durning cough near to incision .

Greetings,  sorry the post surgical issue.  when someone coughs there should not be bulge at abs area. 
Next Steps
go for a second opinion as it points to hernia like situation.   abdominal exercise starting at this stage is a bit risky.

Hello, It's very common to loose power of abdominal muscle after surgery. He need abs strengthening exe. But strictly under physiotherapist instructions as his age is 49, he may get backache if any mistake will there.  For incision pain, massage should be done. Ball llike structure during cough may be hernia as abdominal muscle week, internal organ comes out due to increase in abdominal pressure while coughing.

Consult a good physiotherapist for home visit and start exercise.

Your father can use a pillow or support while coughing to give pressure on that place.
