Training before attaching prosthesis

My friend lost his left arm below-elbow in an accident. He now wants to use a myoelectric prosthesis. I have heard that without proper training using prosthesis becomes difficult. Patients often use a prosthesis for few days and then keep it aside. Is it true? If yes, then what kind of training can my friend undergo? Thank You.
