It is just inflammation of your taste buds. Could be due to mouth breathing at night which also could be causing the coated tongue. Just use your plain toothbrush bristles to gently clean your tongue of the white debris. I suggest an ENT Surgeon locally and get a coronal CT scan of your nose and paranasal sinuses to find out why are you breathing through your mouth when you are asleep....
