Tonsillitis
I was prescribed Moxclav 625 three times a day for 5 days by my ent doctor for my unilateral tonsillitis. Now online I am reading Amoxicillin is given for 7 to 10 days. Can anyone clear up my confusion?

Moxclav (amoxicillin + clavulanate) is stronger than plain amoxicillin, so 5 days is enough for most tonsillitis cases. Your ENT's prescription is correct â complete the course as given.

Hello,
For most of the cases, moxclav for 5 days is more than enough. If your symptoms got subsided, there is no need to take more antibiotics. Because consumption of more antibiotics is not good for your health.
If you have persistence of symptoms, consider ENT doctor because the infection might be resistant ti moxclav.
