Swollen, hurting foot.

My foot recently started hurting really bad. it started a couple days ago, but only got bad yesterday. The thing is, I didn't think anything of it before it got bad. Now where it hurts- the knuckle of my right big toe, is swollen, and hurts to walk on. I am scared it could be dangerous.
