Sudden Blackout

My father faces a sudden blackout sometimes. All the rest of the organs/ senses work fine except the eyes. He gets blinded for 10-15 seconds and then everything gets back to a normal situation. This happens once every 10-15 days. We have got his EEG done and everything looked fine there. He has a BP and a gastric issue for which he takes a medicine daily. We consulted an eye specialist as well but the problem could not be diagnosed. This can be a dangerous situation sometimes (e.g while driving). Please suggest something. Thanks.

Hello A. This condition is known as amaurosis fugax B. We usually advise cardiac evaluation by cardiologist in this situation C. Sometimes, vegetations from heart valves get dislodged and block small blood vessels of eye leading to sudden loss of vision and with next heart beat...again circulation to eye resumes and so vision restores So get cardiac evaluation done along with blood sugar,BP and lipid profile

You must consult neurologist (D M Neurology) because due to disturbances in blood supply to area in brain which is related to vision, this type of problem may happen. You should also take advice from physician addition to ophthalmologist. Dr Arjun kr Singh Patna.
