I have been experiencing this since childhood. I am extremely sensitive to sudden loud sounds, especially Diwali firecrackers, sudden bangs, explosions, or any unexpected loud noise.
Whenever I hear such a sound unexpectedly, I get very strongly startled and irritated/uncomfortable. My body reacts immediately, sometimes even before I can process what the sound was. This happens repeatedly and seems much stronger in my case compared with other members of my family.
I want to understand why I have such a strong reaction to sudden loud sounds. Could this be due to sound sensitivity, an exaggerated startle response, anxiety, or some other neurological/psychological reason? Is there any treatment or therapy that can reduce this sensitivity and the strong reaction over time?
Which specialist would be most appropriate for this—ENT, neurologist, psychiatrist, or psychologist?
