Spotting on Day25 UPT negative

I am a PCOS patient trying to conceive and taking metformin. This month I observed spotting dark brown discharge which was light for 2 days on day 24-25 but the UPT taken on day25 came negative. Does this means I am not pregnant? Then why spotting happened?
