Severe pain & swelling in left foot

I have pain and swelling on the left side of my left foot, near the base of my little toe and along the outer edge. The area feels tender and swollen, and the pain seems concentrated in a particular nerve. It started suddenly this morning when I woke up, and it’s severe enough that I can’t walk properly. Do you have any suggestions or thoughts on what might be causing this?
