Sciatica pinched nerve lower back

2017-09-04 23:21:35
I slipped on an icy street in Dec 2016. I seemed OK, but after a few months, I could feel my legs getting weaker. I finally saw a chiro in June, who showed some nerve impingement at the L5 S1 level. Not great, but enough. He said we could get that taken care of. Now it is September 2017, and I have issues with being able to move my right leg forward. Hip flexor seems very tight or even non functioning. Moves ok side to side and to back. I think it is the psoas muscle not firing on the right side

You seem to have identified the problem. Now need to work on the same. Search for lower crossed syndrome and related exercises and lifestyle modifications. Also includes stretches for the calf, quadriceps and every muscle of the leg. All the best.

Nerve pain can be relieved by physiotherapy treatment in the form of electro-modality for pain relief, neural tissue mobilization to relax the nerve and improve its mobilty. If there are any tight muscles, they need to be stretched. Difficulty in moving your leg could be due to weakness in spine and/or leg muscles. Strengthening exercises for these muscles will help.
Health Tips
While lying down on bed, keep a pillow under your knees so as to put the knees in bent position. This will keep the spine and nerves in relaxed position, thus prevent strain on the nerve.
