BIPAP is the only effective non invasive way of removing co2 from the body and provide sufficient oxygen as well. BIPAP machine has various pressure settings. If the patient is uncomfortable you can try reducing the pressure settings after consulting a pulmonologist or if it is because of mask fitting then various mask sizes are also available to reduce the pressure effect on the face. Contact your BIPAP provider for the same. If he neglects using BIPAP he might end up with severe co2 retention and might require mechanical ventilation which is very bad for him considering his age. Kindly counsel him to use the BIPAP machine.
