Need to know what medicine to use in nebulizer for an adult aged 60+. And how to use? What are benefits of using nebulizer? Wanted to gift my dad who has severe chest congestion due to phlegm and finds difficult to breathe or get a good night sleep.

Using a nebuliser on a daily basis is not recommended for patients with chronic lung problems. The reason for this being, when any patients lung condition worsens due to any reason nebuliser is the first rescue medication given. If it’s taken on daily basis then at the time of worsening of lung condition the nebuliser may not function adequately to relieve patients symptoms. On regular basis inhalers are advisable instead of nebulisers as their drug concentration is lesser and helps to prevent frequent exacerbations and helps in maintaining the lung health.
