My tailbone area has been hurting.

About 5 days ago I started having pain around my tailbone area. I looked up potential causes and the one that I found most was a pilonidal cyst. Although not all my symptoms completely matched. On the first two days it hurt to sit or lay down a certain way, but it is now day 5 and it doesn't hurt as bad to sit/lay down. On my way driving to work this morning I hit a speed bump and the pain started up again but now the area has started to become inflamed. If it helps, I have a desk job and I normally sit for about 8 hours a day. There is absolutely no way I did anything to injure/break my tailbone unless it is possible for muscle strain to happen in that area. If this is a pilonidal cyst, are there any better ways to tell? Also, if it does happen to be, is there a way to avoid surgery? Because I can't afford to miss work for that long.

Hello there. I can understand your concern. Don't try to use your head over things that you don't know anything about. Just consult a general surgeon and a orthopedician in person for further evaluation and management. Best regards. Dr. Anil Kumar Jain. Bangalore.
