After knowing your problem both these drugs are mood stabilizers and normally for mild cases we donot prescribe Lithium due to undue side-effects. Depends on your severity treatment decided. So should be evaluate accordingly.

Various parameters need to be evaluated. Total duration of the illness, present episode - manic or depressive, also severity and stage of the illness- acute or under remission. Since how long have you been on treatment or is this the 1st prescription. Also details of the dosage and indications to start 2 mood stabilisers need evaluation. Ideally if it’s the not severe/ no cross over of medications/ non response to medication etc, it’s recommended to start with one drug and titrate the dose or maximum for adequate period before shifting or adding new drug.
