We want to hire a 25 year old man undergoes interferon treatment for Hepatitis B every month. He is a brilliant candidate but we are worried about others in the office getting infected. We found out that it spreads through blood, semen and bodily fluids... So would the other colleagues be at risk? We can't count on everybody else taking precautions and vaccines. And this new guy might be careless in the washing his hands after coming back from the toilet or in any other scenarios. Though we are OK to give him two extra holidays every month for the treatment. Please advise...

The infection spreads through exchange of bodily fluid, shared needles and sexual intercourse. Day to day work should not cause any spread of infection or problems. Legally you cannot tell his coworkers that he is HbSAg positive but you may be able to take an undertaking from him not enter into a relationship with anyone in the office without declaring his HbSAg status.
