Infection in thumb

This type of infection is occuring frequently in the same thumb. First it starts with pain and after pus starts to accumulate near the thumb. Does this require medical attention. Please help asap

In the photo it appears that there is fungal infection of the finger nai, which is causing recurrent infection. Please consult a Dermatologist
