Getting black cough from lungs

I am getting black cough from lungs from last 1 month, I was a smoker for almost 4 months and left smoking 3 weeks ago. Please suggest next step , is it sign of any serioys disease.I don't have any other symptom other than black mucus and some times frequent throat clearing .

Most common cause of black cougj is smoking, it cam occur due to infections also. Get a chest xray and CT scan done. (Ct thorax).
