Hi there.. Band keratopathy is characterized by the appearance of an opaque white band of variable density across the central cornea, formed by the precipitation of
calcium salts on the corneal surface. Cause could be diseases causing hypercalcemia (like hyperparathyroidism, milk alkali syndrome, excess intake of calcium and
vitamin d supplements), or eye diseases( like Keratitis,uveitis..) or due to topical eye drops usage(which contains phosphate buffer).. to treat it first finding cause is important as recurrence occurs if cause is not treated..then superficial debridement or lamellar keratectomy restores vision and comfort for most patients.. consult corneal surgeon soon..
