I am having a corneal calcification since 10 years , I don't know the cause because I underwent all the tests(calcium, parathyroid, etc) and they all are normal. But now I want this calcium removed from My cornea as it gets very irritating sometimes and also because I am an aspiring Air Force pilot. So please help me regarding the same, I am very desperate to get it removed.

Hi there.. Band keratopathy is characterized by the appearance of an opaque white band of variable density across the central cornea, formed by the precipitation of calcium salts on the corneal surface. Cause could be diseases causing hypercalcemia (like hyperparathyroidism, milk alkali syndrome, excess intake of calcium and vitamin d supplements), or eye diseases( like Keratitis,uveitis..) or due to topical eye drops usage(which contains phosphate buffer).. to treat it first finding cause is important as recurrence occurs if cause is not treated..then superficial debridement or lamellar keratectomy restores vision and comfort for most patients.. consult corneal surgeon soon..
