Epileptic Medicines
I faced an epileptic attack 6 years ago. My doctor suggested me to take INTAS Valprol - CR 750 mg
twice a day. Since then I am taking the medicine regularly. I even consulted another doctor in year 2014. He also suggested me to continue with the same dose.
I have noticed some side effects like hair loss, weight gain, mood swings etc.
Please could you suggest whether I have to take
the medicine for lifetime.
Valprol cr is a mood stabilizer and does not cause mood swings. Yes wright gain and hair loss are known side effects of the medication.
You need to check your blood levels of Valproate, liver function test, CBP test regularly as suggested by your doctor.

Consult a general neurologist or a Neurologist specialized in treating Epilepsy on regular basis. He will address your hair loss, weight gain problems as well.

Some people with epilepsy also have common comorbid depressive or Anxiety illnesses. in that case visit a psychiatrist. psychiatrists rarely treat common epileptic illnesses.
