Elevated GGT result
I did my blood test twice but I got high levels for both test. 1st test was 57. 2nd test was 63. What is the meaning of that? What are the causes why I have elevated GGT result? What will I eat or what will I do to lower my GGT LEVEL? Thank you.
The gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) test measures the amount of the enzyme GGT in your blood. It plays a significant role in helping the liver metabolize drugs and other toxins.
GGT blood levels are usually high when the liver is damaged.
The normal range for GGT levels is 9â48 units per liter (U/L).
The GGT test can diagnose liver damage, but it canât determine the cause. If your GGT level is elevated, youâll probably have to undergo more tests. Generally, the higher the GGT level the greater the damage to the liver.
Next Steps
You have to do some more tests, like LFT (Liver function test) and Ultrasonography (USG) of Upper Abdomen, to find whether and to how much extent liver damage is involved.
