The gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) test measures the amount of the enzyme GGT in your blood. It plays a significant role in helping the
liver metabolize drugs and other toxins.
GGT blood levels are usually high when the liver is damaged.
The normal range for GGT levels is 9â48 units per liter (U/L).
The GGT test can diagnose liver damage, but it canât determine the cause. If your GGT level is elevated, youâll probably have to undergo more tests. Generally, the higher the GGT level the greater the damage to the liver.
Next Steps
You have to do some more tests, like
LFT (
Liver function test) and Ultrasonography (USG) of Upper Abdomen, to find whether and to how much extent liver damage is involved.
