In case of continuous suppuration from the ear it's always better to schedule a surgery, because till the time you have a hole in your eardrum the chances of discharge are always high. It's possible to control the ear discharge with medications but not to cure it. As long as the hole remains you are at risk. Depending on the surgery done a stay of one or two days in the hospital should be expected.
