My dog (Indian adopted, Male, 10.5 yrs, Healthy) has browning teeth. Is it imperative that I have them scraped, or can I let them be? If possible I would like to avoid him the trauma of a visit to the clinic and the procedure. (He hasn't visited a clinic in 9 yrs, and his annual vaccinations are done at home.)

In humans, darkening of teeth which were previously bright, itself is indicative of pulpal damage which require a root canal treatment. In your case, I think you need to visit a vet and get a confirmation of pulpal damage to the teeth.
