Diabetic Retinopathy and Cataract

I am 55 years. Diabetic patients from past 15 years. I have Diabetic Retinopathy NPDR with Macular edema. I have cataract also. Question: Cataract surgery is possible with Macular edema?

Its necessary to establish that, how much cataract is there and extent of loss of vision due to cataract and if at all it is correctable with glasses. If the cataract is minimal and your loss of vision is remarkable then its. Ost likely that your loss of vision might be due to macular oedema. In that case inspite of cat op you are not going to Regain vision. So  before any surgery a detailed examination is necessary.

Cataract surgery not recommended if macular edema present as surgery increases the edema.

See macular oedeama and cataract have two simultaneous effect on the vision..vision loss due to cataract can be reversible by cataract sx. Macular oedeama should be treated . Need more hiatory.. Consult
