Deep vein thrombosis
My Father who has diabetes has been Administered with Arixtra 7.5mg injections to treat Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in right leg ; But this has lead to internal bleeding resulting in Heamatoma formation in the left PSOAS muscle . Doctors then stopped Arixtra injection and did a CT guided aspiration of the blood to relieve pain and regain sensation in the left leg. Since the anti coagulant is now stopped, to eliminate the risk of pulmonary embolism (PE), a retrievable IVC filter has been placed. Now the doctors plan to take a weeks time and start with 2.5 mg dose of Arixtra again.... Are there any alternate ways to treat the patients who report internal bleeding when they are on blood thinners/anti coagulants

In case of DVT anticoagulation is the only treatment to prevent embolisation. Injections are prefffered over oral as we can control the action. Wheres as oral anticoagulants have varrying effect and dose adjustment is also required. Effects of injection is for limited hours and can be stopped in case of bleeding. Unfortunately theres no alterateive treatment for this. So you shuold follw your cardiologists advice. Also arixtra or fondaparinux is the safest and does not require monitoring. It has least bleeding risk profile
