Constipation due to hypothyroidism

I have hypothyroidism, which i got to know 3 days back. My T3 and T4 are normal, but TSH is 9.2. But for 2 months, i have had constipation. I pass stools every day, but my stools are hard, and i feel incomplete after passing stool, even though i drink a lot of water and eat fiber rich foods. Due to this, 2 months back, i had a anal fissure, which has now healed. My doctor says the constipation problem i am facing is due to the hypothyroidism and once it is under control, constipation problem will also be fixed by itself. Is this true? How long does it take for TSH to go normal with medication?
