My healthcare provider asked me to take 0.5mg everyday for 3 more weeks and slowly tapper the dose. But I want to quit the medicine as I have heared if it is used for more weeks withdrawal symptoms would be severe. Please advise

Kindly  follow the advice of your health care provider. Such medications should be tapered  gradually before stopping. In case of any unwanted/ unexpected  effects, kindly consult a Psychiatrist for advice on further treatment.

Clonazepam should be gradually tapered. Dont worry about severe withdrawal that would happen only on acute stoppage.
Next Steps
Shift to 0.5 mg for 2 weeks then 0.25 mg for 2 weeks then stop. If sleep disturbance occurs you can try a non benzodiazepine medicine like melatonin, or bzra like zolpidem on sos basis.

You require to be assessed for the cause of your insomnia and to rule out presence of any other factors causing or aggravating it. Alternatively there are other treatment options available which have a less habit forming potential than clonazepam so if your problem persists then it can be remedied in many different and safe ways
Next Steps
Please consult a psychiatrist at your convenience for a comprehensive evaluation and management
Health Tips
Clonazepam has high potential to be addictive. Please take medication ONLY under the supervision of a psychiatrist!

You should slowly taper to 0.25 mg and then you can stop it, because it needs time to adjust for you, so please follow it
