I am a 67 year old male. my father and mother both died from pulmanory embolisms and i would like to consider taking therapeutic dosis of anticoogulants. is this advisable?? my current inr is 1.1 both parents had total blockages of all major arteries in their lungs. i also travel often by air and flights are usually more than 11 hours.

Hello User. It is not recommended to take anticoagulants prophylaxis unless patient has underlying risk factors which past Pulmonary embolism, two or more episodes of DVT or DVT once with positive APLA profile underlying heart disease like AF or cardiac valve replacement.      Anticoagulants have serious side effects including life threatening bleeding like brain haemorrhage so I would advice against used anticoagulants.
