Hello meningitis is swelling or infection of brain tissue. It’s a viral infection superimposed by bacterial infection leading to brain swelling and if not treated will lead to death . Infection occurs when a person come in contact with a meningitis patient and visit places where meningitis is prevalent. Health care workers who treat meningitis are give prophylaxis by giving vaccine. Not all health care workers are given vaccine except those who are treating these cases or visiting endemic areas.
Vaccine is available in all health care institutions but will be given if you are visiting US in meningitis endemic area or if it’s in list of vaccines mandatory for US travellers.
