Dr. Sameer Karkhanis

Making Decision regarding procedure: I finally had abdominoplasty and breast reduction after contemplating it for over 10 years. I investigated many options in India and abroad. Researching for the most suitable doctor and suitable hospital was a bit challenging. Had to think of many things like doctor’s experience in the field, procedure results, availability, finance, type of pre and post care available, hospital where the doctor works where the procedure can be carried out, hospital environment, support, hygiene, equipment used, after care, in patient care given, etc. I visited 2 cities in India for this and decided to finally have it done in Mumbai. Coming from abroad meant I had to make a few expensive visits to India to decide where and who I will be comfortable with for the procedure.

DOCTOR: I had my procedure done by Dr Sameer Karkhanis. Feeling comfortable talking to a doctor who understands me, explains the procedure, its shortcomings, and how it can be customized for my needs was the most important factors for me in selecting Dr Sameer. He helped me to avoid unnecessary scars which were suggested by some other doctors in the field. He has always been kind, caring and available for any questions at any time of the day. He has been very supportive and accommodating. I had my last post op visit 15 days after my operation with him. This was very welcoming and helped me towards my recovery. I would also like to add all his team members at his clinic CCRS have been very supportive and comforting to me at all stages.

Hospital: I had my procedure at Currae Women’s Hospital. I was asked to be admitted the night before the procedure. This was uneventful. I had most of my pre op tests done by myself abroad, so these weren’t repeated. However, I had ECHO done on Sunday evening as emergency pre op procedure once I got admitted. I was greeted early in the morning of the procedure by my doctor, met the team and was prepared for the procedure. The procedure went as expected. Next thing I remember waking up in the recovery room. I was in ICU looked after by very caring nurse and doctor. I was there was over 6 hours then shifted to my room. I stayed at the hospital for 8 days post op. I had a very good experience with my care over my most vulnerable days. I found the doctors, nurses, carers, dietician, physiotherapist were all very caring and ready to help.

Recovery: Take this seriously. It takes time to get back to normal. Now I am 10 weeks post op and still have some discomfort/tightness feeling on lower abdomen but its manageable now. I was able to get out of bed by day 3, I only managed a few steps out of bed upto day 5-6, It was very painful and felt very disabling despite the best care I got. I had my catheter removed on day 5 and drain removed on day 7 post op. The most difficult symptom in the first week was difficulty with breathing and after a week was tightness feeling in abdomen. I spent a lot of time in bed for the first 6 weeks, not being able to sit for more than 2 hours at a time. I had to take regular pain killers until 6 weeks. I was only able to drive at 6 weeks even then with a lot of abdominal tightness, every hump on the road was troublesome. I was in considerable pain from abdomen and lower back for upto 8-9 weeks post op. I was off work for 6 weeks following the procedure. I feel recovery picked up real quick after week 7 for me.

I was very fit pre op with walking 15,000 steps per day plus 30-60 minutes of swimming daily. I started to manage upto 5,000 steps per day only at week 6. I was walking slower than my elderly mother who has arthritis in her knees! I still haven’t returned to swimming.

Satisfaction: Overall, I am very satisfied with the end result of surgery. Scars are good, healed well on time. I have achieved cosmetically what I wanted to achieve so thank you to Dr Sameer and his dedicated team for making it successful surgery and for being there at all times for me

Tye first consultation is most crucial, hence I narrated my current requirements, my past surgical history, and my lifestyle in general. He heard me patiently and examined each and every part which needed his attention. He inspected thoroughly and laid down the pros and cons of surgical intervention in each if those areas. He was thorough and patient. During the day of surgery, he made the markings and showed it to me before going into the OT room. Surgery went for around 4 hours. No surprises during surgery. Post op, he got me a high quality (expensive) compression garments which are better in quality than the ones I used from previous surgeries. The analgesic cover was good. Nursing care and response was good. Basic food such as oats, omlette, toast coffee, tea was provided. If u Fancy something extra, u will have to order from nearby food joints. There was no bleed or discharge from the skin incisions after day 2 of surgery. After discharge from hospital on day 3, I met him on day 6 for follow up. Stitches were removed by sister Gracie (beautiful n motherly in nature). We observed that the swellings have reduced (especially in chest regions... Which is where I had lipo). Nipple correction looked much better than before. Although I was warned earlier that complete symmetry is not possible at all, yet I liked the smaller and more regular looking nipple albeit a slight asymmetry. Now will have to wait and watch my body heal and take shape over next few months. Only wish was if they could include automatic beds in private rooms and reduce the overall charges slightly. But so far no regrets. Oh, and he is one of the few good looking docs I have seen. :-)

Excellent doctor has lot of knowledge of his stream. He breifs you completly on what n how is the procedure n wht will b d result . So there is complete transperancy between doctor n patient. Extremly comfortable to be with , listens to u n doesnot impose his opinion on u. Extremly professional and caring staff. Well kept clinic which itself makes you comfortable.

This is my second surgery with this doctor. My first was last year dec got tummy tuck done n now in november lipo. In near future if i feel the need for any other cosmetic surgery then Dr. Sameer will be my first choice.

I am extremly happy with the results an as doctor had beforehand informed me about the pain n healing process it was very easy for me to cope with it. Infact since dec 2014 Dr. Sameer is available 24 × 7 on whatapp for me to solve my query.

The tummy tuck and lipo surgery is a big surgery but with a right doctor to carry it out and to guide you through it its a piece of cake.

If you want your journey of cosmetic surgery to be as pleasant and with satisfying result i would recomend Dr Sameer.

I came to know about Gynecomastia when I was in school. And I also told at home but they did not know about it. And when I was in college, I could not wear T-shirts because I was shy, that's why one of my friends had undergone gynecomastia surgery. Hi ppl. I hv very bad experience with dr.sameer Karkhani’s . I went under surgery of gynecomestia The way Dr.Sameer explained the surgery was not the way he performed. Than I went to other doctors for check up *** * ***** *** * ***** **** ************** ******* ************** * ****** ** *** ******* ** ****** *** ** ***** ** **** **** ************ *** ***** * **** ** ** *** ************* ******* **** ***** ****** * * **** **** ** ********* And when I spoke to him that I still have the impression of gynecomastia. He was being rude & asking for more fees for one more surgery. * **** ********** ******** ******* **** ****** ** ***** *** ************ ******* **** ********** I didn’t have good experience.

It was a very great experience I had specially with the doctor making me feel so comfortable that I had hardly any fears while visits post surgery .I shall cetainly recommend any of my known friends and relatives to get the treatment done here as I am very satisfied with the results and also post surgery visits.Extremely soft hands and first doctor through whom I have experienced no pain at all even after this major surgery.

Regarding the staff and hospital hats off with having such prompt service which is rarely experienced in other hospitals.

Dr. Sameer is well informed and was able to answer all my questions/concerns. He took time to explain to me in details what was involved in the procedure and what are the pro/cons of the same. He had excellent post op advice for me which has helped me tremendously in my recovery.

My gynaecomastia surgery was skillfully done by the dr. The dr is very friendly and clears all your doubts about the procedure. I am very happy with the result. The hospital decor is artistic.
