What is this test?
Annexin-1 is a molecule specific to hairy cell leukemia that can be used to differentiate this disease from other B-cell lymphomas. Annexin-1 (A1) was identified by gene expression profiling studies of hairy cell leukemia. In the appropriate context, positivity for annexin A1 favors a diagnosis of hairy cell leukemia. Normal granulocytes and precursors also express annexin A1, serving as a positive internal control in bone marrow specimens.
