A blood film or peripheral blood smear is a thin layer of blood smeared on a glass microscope slide and then stained in such a way as to allow the various bloodcells to be examined microscopically. A blood smear is a blood test used to look for abnormalities in blood cells. The three main blood cells that the test focuses on are: red cells, which carry oxygen throughout your body. white cells, which help your body fight infections and other inflammatory diseases. platelets, which are important for blood clotting. RBC indices and RBC count are used to diagnose different types of anemia. You have some form of anemia if you have a low RBC count or abnormal RBC indices. Anemia is a condition in which the number of RBCs or the amount of hemoglobin in your blood falls below normal levels.
No special preparation is needed for PBS. Inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any underlying medical conditions or allergies before undergoing PBS. Your doctor depending on your condition will give specific instructions.
