What is this test?

Absolute monocyte count (AMC) as a predictor of response to anticoagulation and survival in lung cancer patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE). Conclusion: High AMC is associated with refractoriness to anticoagulation and poor prognosis in lung cancer patients with VTE. Monocytes are a type of white blood cell that fights off bacteria, viruses and fungi. Monocytes are the biggest type of white blood cell in the immune system. Originally formed in the bone marrow, they are released into our blood and tissues. When certain germs enter the body, they quickly rush to the site for attack. They are cells that possess a large smooth nucleus, a large area of cytoplasm, and many internal vesicles for processing foreign material. Monocytes and their macrophage and dendritic-cell progeny serve three main functions in the immune system. These are phagocytosis, antigen presentation, and cytokine production.
