He is a renowned interventional cardiologist recognized for his ground…read morebreaking work in percutaneous mitral balloon valvotomy with the Inoue Balloon catheter, and being the first cardiologist in the country to administer intracoronary and intravenous streptokinase in acute myocardial infarction. He obtained his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College.
He has subsequent to his training at the GB Pant Hospital, New Delhi ( DM cardiology), performed as a senior consultant in cardiology at the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, New Delhi, besides being the chief of cardiology for more than a decade and additional medical superintendent over there. He committed himself to establishing a state of art cardiac catheterization laboratory and a comprehensive cardiac surgery department at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
During his tenure at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, he was awarded numerous international fellowships with some of the leading interventional cardiologists of the world such as Prof Masakiyo Nobuyoshi of Japan, Prof Gary Rubin of the USA, Prof Robert Greenbaum of the UK (special interest EPS).
He also set up a cardiology department with a cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Saroj Hospital, Rohini, Delhi. He was associated with Moolchand Hospital and MAX hospital at Delhi.
He also has the distinction of serving as a cardiologist to 3 Prime Ministers and one President of India, numerous cabinet ministers, and chief ministers, and was also appointed cardiologist to H.E Mr. Nelson Mandela by the Government of India.
