I had back pain problem. One day during travel it suddenly became severe and I was required to take help of my fellow commuters to let me get down from a local train. It was just impossible for me to walk, sit on a bench or even to stand on legs. I called my sister and with the help of people around us, I was taken out of the station on a stretcher and got into an auto rikshaw. The bumpy ride gave me some relief. I consulted my family doctor. After some emergency medication she referred me to a Neuro Surgeon in a Hospital. The Neuto Surgeon advised me to undergo MRI scanning. In the meantime he referred me to Dr. Parag Sanas, Physiotherapist, in his hospital to start physiotherapy. Two days after that, when the MRI Report came, I met the Neuro Surgeon, who after seeing the report said "it is a fit case for spinal surgery as there was damage caused to the disks (disk bulge) between L4-L5 and S1" and advised me to take a decision for surgery within 10 days, failing which I would become paralyzed.

I became very nervous and afraid of surgery. I had 10 days' time to decide and in the meantime I was asked to continue with the physiotherapy on a daily basis.

I continued physiotherapy with Dr. Parag Sanas, who made me feel comfortable during his treatment and advised me to continue physiotherapy till I was feeling improvement and then take a decision about surgery. During those initial 10 days there was good improvement and I had hopes in Dr. Parag that I would further improve upon. We then, after 10 days, both met the Neuro Surgeon, whom Dr. Parag explained about the improvement and I was asked to continue with the physiotherapy.

Thereafter I continued physiotherapy for almost 4-5 months on a regular basis and a time came when I felt that there was no further improvement. I had improved almost 80-90% and I told Dr. Parag that now I don't find further improvement. He then said you can now take a decision about surgery. Having improved so much I did not even go to see the Neuro Surgeon.

During those 4-5 months I had consulted 2-3 orthopedic surgeons, who also advised me to undergo surgery. However, I believed in Dr. Parag and continued physiotherapy as I was finding slow but a steady improvement.

During my treatment with Dr. Parag, I witnessed some patients, who were coming for physiotherapy for the same problem even after undergoing their spinal surgery.

I then continued doing the exercises at home and resumed my work after almost 6-7 months since I suffered the spinal injury.

Now I have retired from my service for the past 5 years and living a normal life since 7 years without undergoing any surgery but with few restrictions of not lifting heavy weights and doing some exercises (though I am not regular).
