He did his MBBS and MD (General Medicine) from Rajasthan and later obtained the DM (Cardiology) postdoctoral degree from Mumbai University. Dr. Sharma is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), Fellow of the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiology (FAPSC), and Fellow of the World Society of Integrated Medicine (FWSIM). He has also completed an Advanced Fellowship in Complex Angioplasty from Italy.
Dr. Anil Sharma joined Bombay Hospital in 1997, and is presently working as Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Honorary Associate Professor of Cardiology at Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences, Mumbai. In addition he is an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist to Nagpada Police Hospital, Air India, Western Railway's Jagjivan Ram Hospital, and Global Hospital, Parel. He is also an Expert for the Asian Network of Cardiologists for radiation protection in Cardiology (IAEA).
Dr. Anil Sharma has worked at the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital in New York with Prof. Dr Samin Sharma, and later with Prof. Dr. Imad Sheiban at Interventional Cardiology University of Torino San Giovanni Battista Hospital, Italy. He is one of the few Indian Cardiologists to have completed an Advanced Fellowship in Complex Angioplasty from Italy.
Dr. Sharma has performed more than 5000 Angioplasty-Stenting procedures and more than 12,000 Coronary Angiography and other Percutaneous Interventions; these include Complex Coronary Interventions such as Chronic Total Occlusions, Ostial lesions, Left Main Disease, Bifurcation lesion, Bypass Grafts and use of special intervention devices like the Rotablator. He has also performed Non-Coronary Interventions, including more than 100 Balloon Valvotomies and 50 Permanent Pacemaker implantations, and other procedures such as Device closure for Congenital Heart Disease, IVC Filter insertion, and Renal Angioplasties. Dr. Sharma is an expert in Transradial Percutaneous Interventions and in Acute Coronary Syndrome.
Dr. Sharma has more than 50 publications to his credit. He has delivered live talks on heart disease on Doordarshan and Radio and also published many articles in newspapers and magazines on the subject of heart disease. He was convenor of a CME programme for general practitioners. He has been actively involved in various national and international live telecasts on complex coronary interventions.
