These are the blood tests for detection of antibodies in the blood. Serological testing is often used for diagnosis of various bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections and other immune system disorders.

Following tests are included in serological testing
- Fluorescent antibody test
- Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
- Precipitation test
- Western blot test
- Complement-fixation test
- Flocculation test
- Serum cholesterol, lipids, glucose
- Widal test
- Syphilis test

You may be required to fast for about 10 -12 hrs for some of the serological tests. Most tests do not require fasting.

Serology is a subset of pathology, where blood tests are done for detection of antibodies in the blood, whereas immunology is a subject where body's immune system and immune system disorders are studied and identified. Immunological tests are used for diagnosis of various immune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, etc.

It depends upon the type of test. It takes around 24-48 hrs to get results for most of the serological tests. Some tests can take several days to weeks to get results.
