St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is a progressive multi-specialty hospital in South Mumbai, offering a full range of medical and surgical services, as well as Out-patient and outreach services. With a panel of competent Consultants, we offer a wide range of specialty services while creating an atmosphere of tranquility and care.St. Elizabeth’s was started in a house by a lady doctor, and was taken over by the Daughters of the Cross in October 1922 at the request of the then Archbishop of Mumbai. Right from its inception, it welcomed people of all communities without distinction of caste, creed or religion.The purpose of the home was to help our brothers and sisters and care for them in their illnesses. The foundress of the Daughters of the Cross, Blessed Marie Therese Haze had said:“Care for the sick, weak and suffering is service to the Lord.” and“The Daughters of the Cross will never separate the love of God from the love of people.By 1954, an outpatient department was started mainly to cater to the middle class and poor. An immunization center was also added. In the 60’s a pathology laboratory and X – ray facilities were started.The hospital grew in size in the 70’s. A clinic for persons with Tuberculosis was provided in the 80’s. In 1991 we were registered as a Hospital. A casualty unit, an intensive care unit, and ultrasound facilities were also addedAlert and responsive to the signs of the times, in 1989 St. Elizabeth’s became a hospital with a panel of competent consultants, qualified Resident Medical Officers and caring nurses and other staff.The dignity of the human person is our priority. There is no discrimination of caste, class, religion or gender. The hospital puts all its resources – human, material and spiritual – at the service of the sick for the promotion of health and well being.
