Description
Repalol Tablet is a combination of Losartan and Atenolol. It is used to treat high blood pressure. Losartan and Atenolol work by relaxing your blood vessels and lowering your blood pressure. Repalol Tablet may cause common side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, low blood pressure, cold hands and feet, diarrhoea, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen. Repalol Tablet should be taken exactly as advised by your doctor. Take it at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of this medicine in your body. Repalol Tablet should be avoided if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have a history of diabetes (a condition with high blood sugar levels) or pre-existing lung, liver, kidney, or heart problems before beginning treatment with this medicine. Close evaluation with respect to your current medicines is necessary to avoid any undesired side effects. Repalol Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. If you are pregnant or are breastfeeding, this medication is not recommended.

Allergy

Heart diseases

Repalol Tablet is not recommended if you have a history of severe heart problems such as sinus bradycardia (slow heart rate), sick sinus syndrome (a condition that may result in irregular heartbeats), decompensated heart failure, and cardiogenic shock (conditions where your heart is unable to supply enough blood to your body), blocked blood vessels, as this medicine may worsen your condition.

Aliskiren

Coadministration of Aliskiren (a drug used to treat high blood pressure) and Repalol Tablet may increase your risk of serious side effects such as kidney problems, hypotension (low blood pressure), and hyperkalaemia (high blood potassium levels). This risk is especially higher if you have a history of diabetes (a condition with high blood sugar levels) or pre-existing kidney problems. Hence concurrent use is not recommended if you have diabetes and/or severe kidney problems.

Severe Hepatic impairment

Hepatic impairment is a condition with a loss of liver function. Repalol Tablet is not recommended if you have severe hepatic impairment due to the increased risk of severe side effects.

Pheochromocytoma

Pheochromocytoma is a condition with a non-cancerous tumour in your adrenal glands (glands located above your kidneys), which results in high blood pressure. Repalol Tablet is not recommended if you have untreated pheochromocytoma due to the increased risk of worsening your condition.

Metabolic Acidosis

Metabolic acidosis is a condition with high levels of acids in your blood. Symptoms may include thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, abdominal pain, weakness, muscle cramps, etc. Repalol Tablet is not recommended if you have metabolic acidosis due to the increased risk of worsening your condition.

Pregnancy

Repalol Tablet is known to cause severe side effects in your developing foetus and is not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Breast-feeding

Repalol Tablet passes into breastmilk and may cause severe side effects in your breastfed infant. This medicine is not recommended during breastfeeding.
General warnings

Other medicines

Repalol Tablet may interact with other medicines and may cause undesired side effects. Inform your doctor about your current medicines including any herbs or supplements before taking this medicine.

Driving or Operating machines

Repalol Tablet may cause dizziness and hypotension (low blood pressure). Do not drive vehicles or operate machines if you experience any symptoms that may affect your mental alertness after taking this medicine.

Peripheral vascular disease

Repalol Tablet should be used with caution if you have blood circulation problems such as peripheral vascular disease (a condition with narrowing of your blood vessels, resulting in reduced blood flow to your limbs) as this medicine may worsen your condition.

Sports

Repalol Tablet is a combination of Losartan and Atenolol. Atenolol is prohibited for use while participating in certain sports. Hence, it is recommended for sportspersons to refer to the list of medicines published by the World Anti-Doping Agency to get information about the prohibited substances.

Hyperkalaemia

Repalol Tablet may cause hyperkalaemia (high blood potassium levels). This may increase your risk of heart rhythm problems. It is recommended to avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas, etc) and other medicines that may increase potassium levels during treatment with this medicine.

Use in children

Repalol Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age due to a lack of safety and efficacy studies.

Missed Dose

Try not to skip a dose of Repalol Tablet. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

Overdose

Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Contact your doctor if you suspect an overdose with Repalol Tablet.

Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition with high blood sugar levels. Repalol Tablet should be used with caution if you have diabetes due to the increased risk of altered blood sugar levels. Your blood sugar levels need to be closely monitored and the dose of your anti-diabetic medicines may be adjusted based on your clinical condition.

Hypotension

Repalol Tablet may increase your risk of hypotension (low blood pressure). This risk is especially higher if you have hyponatraemia (low blood sodium levels) and pre-existing severe kidney problems that require dialysis (a procedure to remove waste products and excess fluid from your blood when your kidneys do not function properly).

Kidney Disease

Repalol Tablet is eliminated by kidneys and should be used with caution if you have pre-existing kidney problems due to the increased risk of side effects, resulting from the accumulation of this medicine in your body. Your kidney function needs to be closely monitored and dose adjustments may be required based on your clinical condition.

Liver Disease

Repalol Tablet is metabolized and broken down by the liver and should be used with caution if you have pre-existing liver problems (mild to moderate) due to the increased risk of undesired side effects, resulting from the accumulation of this medicine in your body. Your liver function needs to be closely monitored and dose adjustments may be required based on your clinical condition.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition in which your intraocular pressure (fluid pressure inside your eyeballs) is abnormally high that can lead to optic nerve damage and eventual loss of your vision. Repalol Tablet may affect your intraocular pressure and should be used with caution if you have glaucoma due to the increased risk of worsening your condition. Your intraocular pressure needs to be closely monitored and dose adjustments may be required based on your clinical condition.

Hyperlipidaemia

Hyperlipidaemia is a condition with high blood lipid (cholesterol/fat) levels. Repalol Tablet may further increase your blood cholesterol levels and should be used with caution if you have a history of hyperlipidaemia. Your blood cholesterol levels need to be closely monitored and dose adjustments may be required based on your clinical condition.

Myasthenia Gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a condition that causes weakness in your skeletal muscles (the muscles your body uses for movement). Repalol Tablet should be used with caution if you have myasthenia gravis as this medicine may worsen your symptoms and cause severe muscle weakness.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic (long-term) skin condition that causes a skin rash with red, itchy, scaly patches. Repalol Tablet should be used with caution if you have psoriasis as this medicine may worsen your skin rash.

Lung disease

Repalol Tablet is not recommended if you have pre-existing lung problems such as asthma (a condition with swollen and narrow airways in your lungs, resulting in breathing difficulties), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a condition with swollen air sacs, resulting in breathing difficulties) as this medicine may worsen your breathing problems. If indicated for use, your doctor may prescribe the lowest dose possible to avoid worsening your condition.
Food interactions
Multivitamins and mineral supplements may reduce the effectiveness of Repalol Tablet when taken together. It is recommended to take these two medications with a gap of at least two hours.
Orange juice may decrease the effectiveness of Repalol Tablet and hence avoid consuming large amounts of orange juice while on treatment with this medicine.
